True Stories
When I lived in Madison, WI, I was on the board of the ArtWrite Collective. I did an artist residency at the Madison Public Library in 2016 with a couple ArtWrite friends. We collectively created a painting that tells true stories about our community. During the residency, we hosted a few workshops from each of our disciplines and asked participants to tell a story about community. The black (conductive paint!) parts of the painting can be touched to play the juiciest parts from our interviews.
I focused on interview-gathering, programming, and wiring the piece. And Bo & Rhea did most of the painting. I wanted to make the project with the similar easy-for-beginners materials as I was using during the workshop portion. For my workshop, I created ways for participants to play with Scratch, a MakeyMakey, and conductive tape/paint to create interactive musical sculptures. |
