The Ingersoll Physics Museum is a single-room museum on the University of Wisconsin Madison Campus. Although the museum is only one room, It is tightly packed almost 50 interactive exhibits
In 2014, I was contracted for one semester to overhaul their signage. They had a limited budget and a limited amount of space. So, I knew that materials wise, I was limited to laminating paper labels, and half-sheet or full-sheet booklets, depending on the exhibit. When I came in, the text in the museum was a mish-mash of styles and a lot of it was 8.5" x 11" papers in 10 pt and 12 pt font and contained a lot of jargon.

The Physics Museum did allow schools to come in for self-guided field trips. With this audience in mind, I re-wrote the text and created booklets for 30 exhibits. Each of the booklets included an illustration of the exhibit, simple directions, and inquiry based language to scaffold learning as participants turned the page. Additionally, for a handful of exhibits, I made QR codes that linked to the museum website and contained more information about the science behind the exhibit.
